The 2015 Corvetting season was kicked off in Kelowna with the "Cruz into Summer" event which was held on the May long weekend. Ten NACOC Corvettes made their way to this first Quad C event of the summer and participants enjoyed the wonderful hospitality of the Kelowna Club while competing in Shine 'n Show, Concours, Slalom, and Rallye events with others from all across Western Canada. NACOC members brought home many awards!
June saw a Sunday drive to Rochfort Bridge for a gathering and lunch at the Trading Post. It was a beautiful day for a drive and was well attended - fifteen cars in all. The next weekend a dozen or so club members ventured out to take part in "History Road" - The Ultimate Car Show, at the Reynolds Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin. On Thursday, June 18th, club members enjoyed a supper " In Style" on the patio at earls in Edmonton South Common. This was the 3rd year for this great club social evening. We were each greeted by themanager and provided group parking, as well as showcase parking on the sidewalk in front of the dining room for a couple of the member cars. The line up of Corvettes in the parking lot attracted much attention and picture opportunities were numerous at this event. We enjoyed the hospitality of earls!
The Corvettes Unlimited Club of Calgary hosted the Annual Quad C Convention the weekend of July 31st - August 2nd. It was a great event - good competition and lots of fun. Wil and Liz Cooksey attended and Wil Cooksey, the Plant Manager of the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant from 1993 - 2008, was the guest speaker at the banquet. The 60's Party was a big hit! NACOC again showed their club spirit, winning the Club Attendance Award. Over 20 of us made our way south to enjoy this event.
Car shows abound in our short summer season and two events were especially well attended by NACOC Corvettes in August. Twenty-three Corvettes from our club showed up for the August 8th Rockn' August Shine n' Show in St. Albert. Many of the members made their way over to the Smith's after the show to enjoy the barbecue they hosted. Great food and conversation! NACOC Corvettes also attended the August 22nd Endless Summer Shine n' Show in Sherwood Park.
A group of seven Vettes completed a scenic drive to Whitecourt on August 23rd for a dinner at Green Gables Restaurant. Again, a wonderful meal and a lovely drive. (Interesting that frogs legs, but not grasshoppers, were on the menu!)
The 42nd Annual Northland Conference was hosted by NACOC on the September 4th - 6th weekend. Sherwood Park was the scene of the action as Corvette Club members competed in Shine n' Show, Concours, Rallye, a Poker Run, and Valve Cover Racing. Barbecues, music, a caricature artist, Slalom Squares, a banquet, and lots of prizes helped to make the weekend a very enjoyable one. (If only the weather would have cooperated! Wet weather did force the cancellation of a much anticipated Slalom Event which was to be held on a private track.)
Our Annual Croquet Tournament, held later in September, was also visited by cool, damp weather. However, club members still enjoyed an enthusiastically played tournament of croquet and a barbecue following the event. Thanks to our hosts!
NACOC's Slalom Event was re-sanctioned for October 18th and this time the weather cooperated beautifully! It was a well attended event enjoyed by the competitors who really seemed to appreciate this private track. What a way to end the competition season! Thanks again to the many drivers who came from affiliated clubs to support this re-scheduled event.
NACOC's Annual Awards Banquet was held November 7th at the Multicultural Centre in Stony Plain. The venue was filled with laughter and talk as the accomplishments of the past year were celebrated. The meal was delicious!
